I have been pursuing an "Associateship" with the Royal Photographic Society for a number of years. I took, as my subject, "Derelict Boats" which was submitted to the RPS in "Creative - Visual Arts".
You are required, as part of your submission, to provide a "Statement of Intent" indicating your reasons and thinking behind your panel and the following is my accompanying Statement.
Statement of Intent.
"Thirty years ago, I visited Dungeness Beach and photographed an old derelict boat alongside an equally derelict hut. Whilst I did process the film, it took 25 years
to get around to printing it, only to discover the image was slightly out of focus – so I went back to re-photograph it.
The boat and hut had sadly gone, but it inspired a fascination in vessels that served their owners, and are now left to rot on the foreshore.
Each takes on a texture and colour in quite a unique way as the ravages of wind, sea and nature slowly reclaim them".
The Associateship was awarded to me on the 11th March 2015
